It’s the American dream, people. Through hard work and determination, every citizen of the United States has the opportunity to secure a white picket fence and a white Ford Mustang with 804hp and a giant rear wing. At least we think that’s what James Truslow Adams meant when he popularized the phrase in 1931.
Anyway, for those who really love the USA, welcome to the Ford Mustang GTD Spirit of America—a special edition that apparently “honors the American spirit of ingenuity and courage in the face of challenge.” Right.

Of course, the extra dollop of patriotism comes after the Mustang GTD became the first American car to lap the Nürburgring in under 7min. Oh, and Ford believes it could go even quicker. Yikes.

So, the special GTD gets a Performance White body with Race Red and Lightning Blue racing stripes. There’s exposed carbon fiber on the front splitter, the rear diffuser, and the spoiler, while the end plates of said spoiler are finished in red and the underside gets unapologetic Mustang branding. Ford says that’s so there is “no doubt for trailing cars about what just passed them.”

Apparently, owners will be able to spec either red or exposed-carbon mirror caps, while red calipers and a black interior (with red and blue accents) are standard. Ford says that the design of its flag-waving Mustang is also inspired by the overalls that American race car driver and five-time land speed record holder Craig Breedlove wore when he broke both the 500mph and 600mph barriers in the ’60s. Pretty cool.
Of course, the GTD will top out at 325kph (202mph), but that much performance from a Mustang is something worth celebrating, no?
