Geely is teasing a new SUV, but we think we already know what it is

The mystery SUV already showed up in the DOE’s EV list, actually—and it’s a PHEV

Earlier today, Geely Philippines published a teaser on its Facebook page captioned “[t]he long wait is over” and “[s]omething luxurious is about to hit our shores soon.” It features an SUV obscured by darkness, with just its silhouette visible. It’s not a total mystery, however, as the front DRLs, side profile, and rear lights provide us clues to work with.

The rectangular DRL pattern, square rear profile, and ruler-like rear lights all line up well with the Geely Monjaro, a five-seat SUV that outsizes the EX5 EM-i that launched earlier this year. It actually appears in the DOE’s list of recognized EVs as the Monjaro EM-i, hinting that the Philippine market could be receiving the PHEV version.

The Geely Monjaro EM-i specifically measures 4,800mm long, 1,895mm wide, and 1,700mm tall. Its closest competitors would be the BYD Tang DM-i and the MG RX9. The Monjaro is a bit smaller than those two, but those are the other large PHEV crossovers offered by Chinese brands.

Powering the Monjaro EM-i is a setup utilizing a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine mated to electric motors, resulting in a whopping 410hp and 723Nm of torque combined. Power is sent to all four wheels via Geely’s e-AWD system. With the 29.8kWh LFP battery, it nets up to 130km of NEDC range during electric-only driving.

The Monjaro EM-i appears on the DOE website with a single ‘Luxury’ variant fully loaded with creature comforts such as plenty of soft-touch materials, a FlyMe-branded 16-speaker sound system, and a power sunroof and sunshade. Of course, this trim includes Geely’s full ADAS suite as well.

How much? Well, we don’t know that just yet—Geely just started the promo rollout, after all. If we really had to guess, expect the Geely Monjaro EM-i to land around the neighborhood of P2 million. For context, the MG RX9 sits just below that line at P1,988,888, while the BYD Tang DM-i stickers for a bit more at P2,148,000. We’ll keep an eye out for Geely’s next move, so stay tuned for further updates.
