In case you’ve missed it, we’ve got nothing but high praises for the new Civic hybrid. It’s perhaps one of the best cars in its size class by offering just about everything you want and need in a modern day sedan.
Given the new Civic’s talents, we can’t help but wonder just how good the all-new Honda Accord would be. After all, the latter should be an even better car given its size and positioning in the market. Curious, we asked if Honda if there was a chance of it ever coming to the Philippines.

The simple answer is, ‘we’re not closing doors’ on the possibility of the tenth-generation Accord landing in the country. That’s according to associates from Honda Cars Philippines Inc. (HCPI).
But before midsize sedan fans jump for joy, this isn’t a guarantee that the Accord nameplate will return. HCPI acknowledges that the midsize sedan market isn’t a volume segment anymore and hasn’t been for quite some time. The previous generation Accord wasn’t a particular huge seller and ended up being pulled off local showrooms even before the product’s life cycle finished.

Still, HCPI said that it will still study the market, regardless. After all, there are still those who prefer the traditional midsize sedan. But even if people say that they’d love to see the Accord back here, there is still a difference between wanting it and actually buying the product.
Currently, the Toyota Camry is the de facto king of the segment with 690 units sold last year. The only other non-luxury brand midsize offering locally is Mazda 6, but even the sedan version was discontinued in favor of the wagon.

Interestingly, the Honda Accord hasn’t totally disappeared from Southeast Asia. Thailand and Indonesia offer the midsize sedan in their respective markets exclusively as hybrids. Also, the model made a comeback in its home market of Japan to serve as the flagship sedan of the lineup.
