A report from CarBuzz shared that next-generation hybrid Honda models bound for the United States will receive a tuned exhaust system, resulting in a louder overall sound package. And it looks like the US will be the only market receiving these angrier hybrids.

How did this come to be? The report quotes an unnamed engineer from Honda who said, “Americans like loud cars, so we had to make this one sound extra good for them.” We’re pretty sure Filipinos like loud cars too, but we digress.

This louder exhaust will be supplied in the next iteration of the hybrid Civic, CR-V, and Accord. It was previewed in the Next-Generation Midsize Hybrid Study, which Top Gear Philippines executive editor Sharleen Banzon got to experience at Honda’s facility in Tochigi, Japan.

With the tuned exhaust attached to dual-motor hybrid systems with 1.5- and 2.0-liter engines, we doubt that the next hybrid Civic and CR-V will make Type R-level noise, but it should be louder than the incoming Prelude.

The hybrid study is still in development, with no definite production timelines. In the meantime, Honda is rolling out the Prelude, which is slated to make its Philippine debut sometime this year. It makes use of the current hybrid powertrain on the Civic, but with the FL5’s braking and suspension systems.
