The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the first segment of the EDSA Rehabilitation Project. As of January 4, 2026, the busway lanes from Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City, to Orense, Makati City, have been paved with a new stone mastic asphalt. The material is said to be more resilient against weather and heavier loads.
Works on the rest of the highway will continue on January 5, at a nightly schedule from 10pm to 4am. The DPWH still expects to complete the project on its original target date on May 31, 2026.

According to the Department of Transportation, commuters and busway operators were quick to praise the improved roads, citing a smoother riding experience and faster travel times.

Since the rehabilitation started, the thoroughfare has undergone several other changes outside the DPWH’s project. E-trikes and other light electric vehicles have since been banned from traversing EDSA, while the busway system started accepting cashless payments via GCash.
As construction continues, the DOTr is gearing up to open three new carousel stations this year, with additional stops at Cubao, Magallanes, and the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange. This is part of a larger, separate rehabilitation project for the EDSA Busway. It kicked off in October 2025 with the construction of the new EDSA-Kamuning Busway station, which will replace the infamous Mt. Kamuning footbridge. That particular station is expected to open in the first quarter of 2026.
