Is this finally it? In a new video advertisement, Mitsubishi showed off a big and boxy SUV, featuring an updated look of its T-shaped DRLs. All these signs point toward an all-new Pajero, but the Japanese carmaker has not confirmed or shared any additional information about this possible release.
The video itself paid homage to Mitsubishi’s rallycross history and achievements. It mostly featured the winning Triton pickup until the Dakar-winning Pajero Evo hit the road. This made the SUV preview an even bigger surprise.

If it seems like Mitsubishi has been focused on its urban vehicles—like the Destinator and Xpander—whatever this SUV is should be a loud and rugged breath of fresh air.

In September 2025, it was reported that a new Pajero could debut as early as December 2026, primarily to help the brand’s domestic sales in Japan. However, the report also mentioned that production could move to Thailand.

Interestingly, the SUV seen in the video looks very similar to our render of a new Montero Sport (pictured below). Featuring the same boxy frame and updated DRLs, a new Montero Sport may be a more conservative but sensible move for Mitsubishi. If the reports that a new Thai-based SUV is in the works, the carmaker will use the underpinnings of the Triton, which may save costs and help with production.
Whatever this may be, it is shaping up to be a return to rallying roots for Mitsubishi and a boost for its Ralliart brand.
