Hongqi’s fully electric E-H7 sedan and E-HS7 SUV have earned five-star safety ratings from the European New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP).

The vehicles were awarded top marks after passing durability tests in simulated floods, explosions, and fire. Collision and side-impact crash assessments were also carried out, and the E-H7 and E-HS7 passed with what Hongqi described as “no significant deformation of the car’s pillars.” The final test involved a massive, 7,800kg object falling onto the cars, but the pair came out with relatively minimal damage and enough survival space for passengers.

The E-H7 and E-HS7 debuted in the Philippines in April, earlier this year, to the tune of P2.28 million and P2.58 million, respectively. While these fully electric vehicles advertise an opulent riding experience, Hongqi ensured that the drivers would have some fun, too.

The over five-meter-long E-HS7 can make the 0-100kph sprint in just 3.9sec. And that’s thanks to a 339hp rear-mounted electric motor and a beefy 111kWh battery. In terms of driving range, it advertises 540km, and a smaller 85kWh battery option can go for 475km.

The E-H7 sedan has a similar form factor to the SUV, albeit at a lower height. The top variant utilizes an AWD system that should be good for a long 640km on a single charge. And like the E-HS7, there is a more standard variant of the E-H7, which packs a two-wheel-drive system and a 510km driving range.
