In case you missed it, Ken Block won’t be behind the wheel in the next Gymkhana video, and it won’t feature a Ford. Instead, driving duties will fall upon drifting ace Travis Pastrana who’ll be burning rubber in a Subaru WRX STI.
Of course, it won’t be just any ordinary Subie kicking up smoke in the next Gymkhana video. In line with tradition, the vehicle has to have some personality—like Block and the Fords he drove in previous installments. Thankfully, it looks like Pastrana’s covered in this department thanks to Subaru Motorsports USA.
Hoonigan has released footage of the vehicle in question being presented to Pastrana for the first time, and it looks like the dude couldn’t be happier. We’re also given a behind-the-scenes look at the team choosing what tires they're going with. No performance details have been revealed, but we are told it’s all-carbon, and it’s clearly covered roof to wheel in slick aero bits. Watch Pastrana play around with his new Subie in the video below:
“Welcome to the newest addition to a long line of wild Gymkhana cars: Travis Pastrana’s 2020 Subaru WRX STI Gymkhana car, purpose-built just for the film,” the Hoonigan YouTube page says. “This is Travis’s first time ever seeing, driving, and sliding this car…and damn if it isn’t glorious.”
Glorious. We have to agree, especially after hearing this thing slide around for a bit. Chances are this won’t be the vehicle’s final form, though. At the very least, expect it to be dripping in eye-catching decals and paintwork by the time it gets behind the camera for the next Gymkhana video.
So, what do you think of Pastrana’s new Subaru WRX STI? Will it live up to expectations, or do you prefer Block and his arsenal of souped-up Fords over this? Let us know in the comments.
