What is going on a Hyundai Philippines? First, they surprise us by bringing in the high-performance N models. Not content with that, they brought in a slew of hybrid crossovers. On top of that, the company shocked us all during the Manila International Auto Show by launching the all-new Elantra…with a very reasonable price tag.

But their bag of tricks seems to be not over yet. A recent peek at the Land Transportation Office’s Memorandum Circular list, we might be in for yet another new sedan from the South Korean automaker.

Yes, you read that right. Hyundai’s once popular subcompact sedan has a good chance of being relaunched here. With LTO’s approval, the wheels are probably in motion for its local debut.

It’s been a good three years since the Accent sat in Hyundai showrooms. Its successor was the Reina, a model sold in China, but has also been since discontinued.

Per the file, it says Hyundai Accent 1.5 AT Premium Gas TU. The ‘TU’ bit is a bit of a mystery, but could be shorthand for turbo? We can’t say anything with certainty just yet, but it’s worth pointing out that the latest generation of Accent is, indeed, available with a turbo.

The non-turbocharged model makes 113hp and 144Nm mated to either a six-speed manual or CVT. Those fitted with a turbo get a healthy power bump, rising to 158hp and 253Nm. Turbocharged models can be paired with either a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual clutch. The latter should make it an effective pocket rocket.

For dimensions, it measures 4,535mm long, 1,765mm wide, 1,475mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,670mm. It also rides on 16-inch wheels. Based on those, the all-new Accent has gotten quite the growth spurt. For reference, the previous generation was 4,385mm long, 1,729mm wide, 1,450mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,580mm.
