Hyundai's official entry into the large SUV EV market is almost here. The Hyundai Ioniq 9 is scheduled to make its world premiere sometime in November 2024, and the South Korean car company is keeping everyone on their toes with a new batch of teaser photos.

Expected to compete with the likes of the Kia EV9, the Ioniq 9 will be a big three-row electric SUV with a design that echoes the futuristic intricacies and comfort of the Ioniq 5 and 6.

Hyundai has not specified when exactly in November the Ioniq 9 make its global debut. From the teaser photos, it looks Hyundai is banking on an aerodynamic and aesthetic (‘Aerosthetic’) design philosophy, and a guarantee of a spacious and comfortable interior to build the hype and keep the public hooked.

The Aerosthetic design justifies its name with a single-curved roofline that defines the elongated shape of the Ioniq 9. A couple more sleek, uninterrupted curves streak across the sides of the car to complement its long wheelbase, signifying a roomy interior. The multi-spoke wheels take inspiration from turbines that harness the wind—whether it actually makes the car go faster will be determined upon release.

The aesthetic aspect of the Ioniq 9's design comes from a celebration of Korean heritage, and (oddly enough) boats. Around the sides of the EV, there are character lines that curve in the same structure of a Hanbok, the traditional clothing style of South Korea.

While there are no released images of the interior of the Ioniq 9, the public is left to wonder just what exact nautical or boat-themed design cues Hyundai will adapt for its interior.

There are no released specifications on its price, performance, and variants. So like the boat-themed interior design, we will just have to wait and see.

The Ioniq line has become the pride and joy of Hyundai. The company aims to sell a total of two million EVs by 2030, and with the addition of the Ioniq 9, Hyundai’s electrification goals just became more realistic.
