What is going on at Hyundai Philippines? We don’t mean that in a bad way, mind. Rather, some of the most memorable nameplates that stayed dormant for a while are making a comeback.
First, there was the Elantra, practically reviving the 1600cc compact sedan class, while bringing in the hybrid and sporty N-Line. Let’s not forget the full-on N version that’s made to chase sports cars. There’s also the possible return of the Accent, based on recent LTO filings.

Now, there might be another model on the way back. It appears the Hyundai Kona is staging a local comeback, and it definitely wasn’t on our 2025 bingo card.

How did we get to that conclusion, you ask? Judging by the trailing edge of the hood and the full width daytime running lights, the Kona seems to be the closest that fits the bill. With that, Hyundai Philippines could be set to have two B-segment crossovers.

We reckon that it’s the hybrid version that we’ll be getting here. If so, it pairs a 1.6-liter unit to a single motor, just like the one found in the Elantra Hybrid. That means a combined system output of 139hp and 245Nm. That said, there are other possible engine options, namely a 1.0-liter turbo mild hybrid and a 1.6-liter turbo.
There is another version of the Kona that might land here. Let’s not forget that there’s a full EV version of this subcompact crossover. Available in either standard or long range models, the prior has a 48.4kWh battery pack and 133hp, while the latter comes with a 65.4kWh pack and 201hp.

Regardless if we’re getting hybrid or full electric, the possible return of the Kona is a pleasant surprise. We’ll keep our eyes peeled for any updates down the line, and we’re looking forward to the other launches Hyundai Philippines has in store this year.
