You might have heard reports of the Isuzu D-Max getting a battery-powered option down the line. At the time however, those stories mainly consisted of insider reports that the manufacturer did not confirm…or deny.
Granted, electrification was bound to reach Isuzu at some point. Even the diesel experts are well aware that it has to adapt to the times. The company didn’t mention when it was going to show its first electric pickup, that is, until now.

In a surprise (and shocking) move, the Isuzu D-Max EV concept has just made its world premiere. Not only that, a few key details of the production version were also shared during the debut event.

Surprisingly, Isuzu revealed a few key stats about the electric D-Max. It uses a pair of electric motors, one powering each axle. Dubbed the e-Axle, it effectively gives the electric pickup four-wheel drive. It has an output of 174hp and 325Nm of torque, a top speed of ‘over 130kph’, a battery capacity of 66.9kWh, and a payload capacity of 1,000kg.
Even though it’s dubbed a concept, there’s a good chance that the road-going version will save many of the visual cues seen in the prototype. Key differences include a largely sealed off grille, a reshaped front bumper, and blue highlights throughout the exterior.
Isuzu promises that the electric D-Max will perform just as well as the familiar turbodiesel models. The company also mentioned is that the production model will come out in 2025 in Europe. After that, it will be Australia, Thailand, and eventually, the rest of the world. With that, we can soon expect three electric pickups coming this decade, namely the D-Max EV, Hilux EV, and the Triton EV.
