The last of Nissan’s Hyper concepts for the Japan Mobility Show (JMS) is here, and while 2023 still isn’t the year we can utter the words, “This is the all-new GT-R,” here’s our best look yet at where the model could be headed.
Welcome to the Nissan Hyper Force concept, which promises to “deliver the ultimate in driving pleasure while also offering high environmental performance and comfort for daily use,” and gamifies the experience for good measure. Although Nissan says these concepts aren’t tied to particular models in its existing lineup, that cheeky little badge up front and the taillight design out back totally reference the GT-R.

The Hyper Force is fully-electric, but we’re not told much beyond the fact that it generates up to 1,341hp (1,000kW ), has an all-solid-state battery, and is equipped with an ‘advanced form’ of Nissan’s e-4ORCE all-wheel drive. Nismo had a hand in developing the exterior, specifically the elements that maximize aerodynamic functionality and cooling.
The interior is exactly what you’d expect out of a partnership with Gran Turismo developer Polyphony Digital, with the cockpit at this point looking more like a gaming pod with augmented reality and virtual reality features. For ‘actual’ use, there are two modes. Racing (R) illuminates the cockpit in red, and the screens show things like tire grip and temperature, power distribution, and other performance-related driving info. Grand Touring (GT) switches the lighting to blue and simplifies the interface. Those letters, though...R, GT. GT-R...

Moving on, the Hyper Force can be driven virtually on real-world racetracks, too, using a special helmet and visors while the car is parked. At the official unveil, the launch video showed it racing around the Nürburgring Nordschleife, and asked if there’s a chance it will be a playable car in Gran Turismo, Nissan’s vice president for global marketing, brand, and mechandising Allyson Witherspoon said they are currently in discussion with Polyphony Digital, but cannot commit to anything yet.
“With its eco-friendliness, electrifying performance, and cutting-edge safety equipment, this concept is Nissan’s vision for a next-generation all-electric high-performance supercar,” reads the press release. We don’t know when that will materialize, or whether it’ll be called GT-R and codenamed R36. Maybe at JMS 2025?
