The Kia PV5 is a curious-looking thing. It’s a battery-powered van that’s primarily for the European and, of course, South Korean market. It’s Kia’s way of saying they can have one of the widest selections of electric vehicles, commercial models included.

We were able to see it in the metal during the Kia EV Day in Spain a few months ago. It’s available in a variety of body styles and configurations, showing off its flexibility and practicality solutions.

In more recent news, the order books for the PV5 have opened up in its home market. That also means more specifications have been revealed, and it looks pretty promising so far.

There are two lengths on offer, both sitting on a 2,995mm wheelbase. Standard length and extended models can be applied to both cargo and passenger versions of the van. For now, only a five-seater version is available for the passenger van, but a three-row model could be available soon. As for the cargo variant, it’s strictly a two-seater.

Inside, one can say that it’s functionally minimalistic. Vital and basic controls are still handled by buttons, while other functions are handled by the infotainment. A free-standing screen then serves as the instrument cluster. Like the exterior, it’s all about straight and simple lines, following Kia’s more geometric design philosophy of late. Of course, there’s no shortage of cubby spaces, and there’s even a glove box in front of the driver.

There are other neat features to be found here. Kia claims it’s ‘infinitely flexible’ and has V2L (Vehicle-2-Load) capabilities that allow it to power homes, depending on charge. The passenger version’s back seats can also be transformed into a bed, while the cargo floor packs a neat hidden section for more space.

Thanks to its layout, the Kia PV5 has buckets of space despite its relatively compact dimensions. There are no measurements for the standard length model, but the longer cargo van measures in at just 4,695mm, making it even shorter than a Toyota Zenix. Still, it offers a maximum cargo volume of 4,420 liters, while the passenger variant has at least 1,330 liters.

Power figures aren’t mentioned yet, but the battery capacities have been revealed, at least according to government papers. For the passenger van, it has a 71.2kWh battery with a range of up to 358 kilometers. Meanwhile, the cargo offers the same 71.2kWh battery, along with a smaller 51.5kWh pack. Range for the cargo is at 280km or 377km.
