This is the fully-electric LEVC L380, from the makers of the London black cab

A company famous for building taxis has revealed a new car that will spearhead an entirely new range of EVs. A noble business pursuit, but really, look! It’s 2023 and this is a brand-new, rather cool-looking MPV!

The London Electric Vehicle Company (LEVC)—owned by Chinese conglomerate Geely, remember—tells us this new LEVC L380 marks the transition from “high-end taxi manufacturer to a leading provider of e-mobility solutions.”

It’ll make that transition via Geely’s ‘SOA’ or ‘space oriented architecture,’ and up to eight adult-sized seats packaged inside a very sleek, modern bodyshell. LEVC hasn’t yet divulged what will power the big lug, but the SOA apparently allows for “advances in range, efficiency, safety, charging time, durability and connectivity.”

More important, we’re told the L380—sounds like a plane, offers only fractionally less space than a plane—will be available in six- or eight-seat configurations and will “raise the bar” for interior flexibility. On the car’s part, not yours—LEVC is not inviting you to become a contortionist.

It’ll launch first in China next year, after which it’ll be available in other areas of Earth. Tech specs will follow soon, too.

“Building on our unrivaled heritage in producing the iconic London black cab, we have adapted our business to meet the rapidly accelerating demand for spacious, flexible electric vehicles,” said LEVC boss Alex Nan.

“Setting new standards for occupant-focused interior space, L380 raises the bar for large luxury fully-electric MPVs. The first of a new range of models, it is inspired by our rich history, combined with the resources of the Geely organization, setting us on an exciting new path, bringing advanced zero-emission transportation to more customers than ever before.”

More as we have it.
