Hold on. Why are we doing news on the Mercedes-Benz G-Class? The current generation was introduced in 2022, so it’s been around for quite some time already.
Apparently, it gets a couple of exterior tweaks and tech updates for 2024. It first glance, it doesn’t look all that different from the 2022 model, but the brand insists there are a whole host of changes.

You won’t find of lot of those from the outside, though. That said, the exterior updates are mainly seen at the front end of the new G. Most noticeable is the grille with four instead of the previous three horizontal louvres. Its front bumpers have also been revised with a ‘squircle’ corner air intake design.
Part of the 2024 update includes new wheel designs and color choices. Adjustments to the A-pillar cladding and a spoiler lip on the roof edge contribute to improved aerodynamics, says Mercedes-Benz.

Inside, there are a few tweaks to the vehicle’s screens, particularly in the digital cluster display. The infotainment system gains the latest MBUX software for faster processing speeds and additional functions. Even the steering wheel gets touchpads for this update, replacing traditional buttons.
MBUX Augmented Reality for Navigation has been added to the new G-Class. The system superimposes graphical navigation and traffic information onto live images on the media display. A feature called Offroad Cockpit gives a better view of the SUV’s edges when going out on the trails.

This being a G-Class, the off-road goodies remain. Off-road driving modes are present, along with three locking differentials to let all four wheels to move in sync for maximum traction on loose surfaces. Axle ratios have also been enhanced for improved rock-crawling abilities, says Mercedes.
All engine choices of the 2024 Mercedes-Benz G-Class have some degree of electrification. Joining the range is the G500 turbo petrol and G450 d turbodiesel. The G500 uses a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine that churns out 449hp and 560Nm of torque. The mild-hybrid system can give a boost of 20hp and 200Nm of torque if needed.

As for the G450 d, its inline-six diesel rolls produces 367hp and 750Nm of torque. Like the G500, the G450 d’s mild-hybrid system can provide more power and torque when necessary. It too can add another 20hp and 200Nm of torque to the SUV’s factory output. All variants of the G-Class shift with a nine-speed automatic transmission.
Of course, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class is (and always will be) an expensive SUV. In Europe, prices kick off at €122,808...for the ‘basic’ G350 d. Yes, we know it'll remain extremely capable off-road, but would you dare scratch its paint for some off-road fun?
We would.
