While the Mercedes-Benz GLC hasn’t been the top of mind choice in the luxury compact crossover segment, it’s been a steady seller nonetheless. The current generation has been around for quite some time already, but only sold in one variant as the GLC 200 4Matic.

But by the time you read this, Mercedes-Benz had just rolled out another variant for the GLC. Dubbed the GLC 350e 4Matic, it now comes with plug-in hybrid power. The timing’s just right, too, given that Lexus has the NX350h and BMW recently premiered the all-new X3 30e xDrive.

The 350e bit of the badge should be enough of a clue for its powertrain specs. After all, it shares the same designation as the E350e that’s just been launched alongside it.

Under the hood is a 2.0-liter turbo gas engine that’s then mated to a single electric motor and a 24.8kWh battery. Power output is exactly the same as the E350e, meaning 204hp and 320Nm. It’s then attached to a nine-speed automatic transmission, and the 4Matic tag means it comes with all-wheel drive. Projected electric-only range is at 87km.

The local-spec GLC 350e comes with the Avantgarde design package. With it comes multi-spoke alloy wheels and more brightwork on the body. One can distinguish the 350e 4Matic from the 200 4Matic by the wheels as the plug-in hybrid version comes with an ‘aerodynamically-optimized’ design.

Its interior layout is identical to the C-Class with a large vertical screen and a ‘waterfall’ dashboard fascia. The infotainment system packs the latest MBUX software, meaning faster processing times and smoother, cleaner graphics. And while it doesn’t come with the E-Class’ 4D audio system, the GLC’s speakers are still from Burmester.

What’s interesting here is the price. The Mercedes-Benz GLC 350e 4Matic can be yours for P4,890,000. That makes it even more ‘affordable’ than the GLC 200 4Matic that rings in at P5,190,000. For those who want power and efficiency in one package, it’s a bit of a no-brainer choice.
