Mercedes-Benz Philippines has added another plug-in hybrid electric vehicle to its lineup with the new GLE400e with EQ Hybrid Technology. This latest release makes three plug-in hybrids in the local Mercedes-Benz stable, joining the electrified E-Class and GLC.
At the launch event, general manager of Mercedes-Benz PH, Maricar Parco, shared that the GLE has been the brand’s best-selling model in recent times, making up around 36% of its total sales. With those numbers, it looks like Mercedes-Benz aims to build on the GLE’s momentum and local favorability in this new hybrid version.

Priced at P5.79 million, the GLE400e undercuts one of its main competitors in the plug-in hybrid BMW X5, which stickers for P6.99 million. But let’s see what that price gets you.

Thankfully, this GLE hasn’t adopted the design language of the recently unveiled GLC with EQ Technology. The familiar diamond-patterned grille and chrome accents still form the fascia, which looks immensely classier than what was slapped on the new GLC.

While this model isn’t AMG-spec’d, or even an AMG-Line variant, it did take some styling cues from Merc’s performance division. The 21-inch wheels have been stamped with AMG branding, along with the floormats and the pedals inside.
Speaking of the interior, the cabin is mostly dressed in Artico leather and Microcut microfiber, with wood and chrome accents laid throughout. And as with most modern Mercs, customizable ambient lighting is extended all over the cabin.

The GLE400e also brings the latest version of the MBUX software, featuring augmented reality navigation and active parking assist. Those features are further supported by a 360-degree camera system.
With the 4Matic AWD system onboard, the GLE400e is pushed and pulled by a hybrid system built around a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that makes 252hp and 400Nm of torque. It’s rated for about 700km of driving, with 100km on just electric power.
