China would like to make some waves in the pickup truck market. The Japanese and the Americans have had a stronghold in that segment, but it’s not stopping the Chinese from trying.
Currently, there’s JMC, Great Wall Motors, and Foton that are trying to be the breakthrough brand in the pickup wars. However, they’re also being challenged by BYD and Changan by going electrified.

Now, another brand is thinking about throwing its hat into the ring. That brand is MG, and they too would like a crack at the pickup market. The British-Chinese automaker has confirmed that it will roll out a new pickup soon, and the wait might not be too long.
That said, MG isn’t entirely new to the pickup class. The company already has something called the Extender. Unfortunately, it’s only sold in Thailand, which is probably a reason why not a lot have heard of it. The rest of the world has it either as a Maxus or an LDV.

But for its next pickup, it seems that MG is taking it more seriously. Again, it will ask for help from fellow SAIC member Maxus for that. The key lies in the recently revealed Maxus e Terron 9. It’s the latest pickup from the SAIC group, and it’s all electric, at least for now.
Even though electrification is a strong driving force of MG right now, the company is also aware that it will need a diesel to lure in more potential customers. Diesel, after all, is still the way to go in the pickup class.
According to Australian motoring outfit Drive, MG executives don’t want to wait too long to roll it out. At the same time, officials have no intention of rushing the product to the market to avoid and ‘shortcuts.’ MG is keep in breaking the top five over in Australia, and MG’s executives there have told the higher ups at SAIC that it will be impossible to achieve without a pickup in its lineup.
That pretty much applies to any market that has a strong pickup market. If MG wants to expand and strengthen its sales even more, the pickup should arrive sooner than later.
