For those in the market for a pint-sized hot hatchback or crossover, now might be a good time to swing by your nearest Mini showroom. That’s because Mini Philippines has brought in five John Cooper Works models in the country in EV and combustion engine versions.
So, what are the five models in question? In the combustion-powered camp, there’s the Mini, Mini Convertible, and Countryman ALL4 in their hottest form. Flying the flag of EVs are the Mini Electric and Aceman.

Starting the traditional models, the Mini and Mini Convertible John Cooper Works models share the same engine. That means a 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo engine that produces 231hp and 380Nm. It then sends power to the front wheels and shifts via a sport-tuned dual-clutch transmission.

Mini claims a 0-100kph time of 6.1 seconds and a top speed of 250kph for the hatchback. Meanwhile the convertible reaches 100kph in 6.4 seconds and has a slightly lower top speed at 245kph.

For those who need a higher-riding Mini, there’s the Clubman John Cooper Works edition. It still uses the familiar 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo engine, but gets a healthier power boost. It’s cranked up to 300hp and 400Nm in the Clubman, allowing this crossover to hit 100kph in as little as 5.4 seconds. ALL4 all-wheel drive helps it lay down the power and keep it on the road.
Moving to the EV models, we start with the Cooper Electric with its electric motor pushing out 258hp and 350Nm. It allows this battery-powered hot hatchback to hit 100kph in 5.9 seconds, largely thanks to the immediate response of electric motors. Also, a quick fun fact: To identify a fuel-fed Mini from an electric one is with its door handles. The combustion-engined Mini has a pull-type handle, while the electric version has a flush handle.

As for the Aceman, the John Cooper Works model has the same arrangement as the hottest Cooper Electric. That means it also has 258hp and 350Nm, also coursed through the front wheels. Given the extra weight, it’s slightly behind the hatchback but still posts a 0 to 100kph time of 6.4 seconds. For range, the hatchback can travel up to 371km, while the Aceman can get up to 355km.
