Remember the Nissan Murano? The 350Z-engined SUV was sold over here, but sales were nowhere near spectacular and it was quietly pulled out. Turns out the model didn’t die completely, though—it has soldiered on in North America and China, and now there’s a new one.
Yep, this is the fourth-gen Murano, and it’s actually quite handsome compared to its toothy predecessors. Nissan says it has been designed to its theme of ‘energetic elegance’ and there’s more than a hint of Ariya in its clean looks. There’s two-tone paint, a full-width rear lightbar, 21-inch wheels, and many daytime running lights that flank a large front grille.

The new-gen Murano is actually 6.6cm wider than the previous car, and inside, we’re promised more shoulder space than before. More legroom, too, thanks to slimmer front seats.

The interior is also very Ariya-like, with a capacitive-touch panel for the climate controls and twin 12.3-inch screens for the dial display and the infotainment. Said infotainment features Google built-in for maps and other apps. The interior color themes are apparently inspired by “the inimitable light quality of golden hour experienced along the Californian coast.” Right.

Nissan says the new Murano also adds its Captain America-sounding ‘Nissan Safety Shield’ as standard, and there’s a load of new active safety tech. Sadly, though, it no longer gets a V6 under its hood. A 2.0-liter four-pot turbo sends 241hp and 352Nm of torque through a nine-speed automatic to either just the front wheels or all four if you’ve spec’d the SL or Platinum trims.
So, the Murano lives on. Should Nissan consider bringing it back to our market?
