There are a lot of interesting police vehicles from around the world. England has its fleet of BMWs, Volvos, and Audis, Italy has the Lamborghini Urus and Huracan while the US has the Ford Explorer and Dodge Charger, along with the occasional Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challenger.
Over in Australia, there are several police cars of interest. We covered a 300 Series Land Cruiser before, but what we have now is something of a complete opposite.

It still has all-wheel drive, but it’s a totally different application. In case you missed the headline, today’s patrol car is the Subaru WRX. Donning Northern Territory Police livery, a fleet of 13 WRXs will perform its duties around the region to crack down on speeders and other moving violations.

Contrary to popular belief, police cars don’t get tuned engines. But in the case of the WRX, it doesn’t really need it. Its 2.4-liter turbocharged boxer engine is good for 271hp and 350Nm of torque. It’s more than enough to propel this sport sedan to 100kph in a shade over six seconds…without the police equipment, that is.
Instead of engine mods, the cop-spec Subaru WRX comes with features that will help officers perform their tasks and duties. Per Australian publication Drive, the 13 units come equipped with a dual battery system, automatic number plate recognition cameras, speed radars, a rear-facing message board, and a rifle mount with electronic release.
Mind you, this isn’t the first time the WRX wore a police uniform. Victoria and New South Wales have used it as a patrol car for over two decades, and it’s also become a police car in Japan and the UK.
