Toyota fans, get a load of this: the legendary Celica is making a comeback.

Those aren’t just mere rumors—Japanese automotive website Best Car reported that during the recent Rally Japan 2024, it was none other than Toyota Motor Corporation executive vice president Yuki Nakajima who made the confirmation.

It’s been decades since the Celica was last produced. Over the years, it has endured as an icon in the automotive scene, both locally and globally, and has amassed a cult following among car enthusiasts.

In the same event, Nakajima also confirmed that Toyota is already working on the next-gen GR86. No word on when any of this will happen, but hey, it’s something.

Toyota Celica and MR2 easter egg from anime

Now, to be fair, these don’t exactly come as complete surprises. Toyota did have some Easter eggs in its anime series Grip, and in hindsight, it was impossible for that frame to have been a mistake in production.

With that, we can now only assume that the other vehicles shown in that same Easter egg might also materialize in the near future. But until then, we’re just happy that Toyota will continue to make fun cars like the Celica. So we got the A90 Supra, the GR Yaris, and the GR Corolla, and will be getting the next-generation 86 and Celica in this era? What a time to be a Toyota fan. Here’s hoping the MR2 confirmation is coming up next.
