MRT can stand for a lot of things, but for us Pinoys, it’s a train line that runs across EDSA. Over in Japan, particularly for the folks at Toyota, it has a different meaning.
Yes, we’re featuring yet another special edition Hiace from Modellista. Dubbed the MRT, it has nothing to do with trains. It is, however, a rather neat and unique variant that combines two vehicles in one.

So, why is it called as such? In this case, MRT stands for Multi Role Transporter. In this case, it combines elements that make it a work vehicle, as well as weekend relaxation vehicle or camper. Aside from that, it can, in some way, even be a family vehicle of sorts. Well, they really went all out with that multi-role bit.

There are two types of Hiace MRT available, namely, er, Type I and Type II. Type I comes with a flat loading bay that allows the owner to customize it to their heart’s content. On the other hand, Type II adds a shelf and storage box integrated into the van’s interior molding.

Aside from the storage panel in the Type II, there are other standard features to be seen in the Hiace MRT. It includes a hard PVC floor for easy cleaning, several anchor points for secure cargo loading, and a back door scuff plate.

Of course, there are interesting options to be had. One is an auxiliary battery that can power equipment or items for that glamping trip. Customers can also get themselves a double bed kit, while those who prefer to fly solo can go for the single bed.

The Toyota Hiace MRT would make for an interesting addition in the local lineup, don’t you think? Here’s to wishing some of the goodies seen here trickle down to the Philippine market.
