Believe it or not, the current generation Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series is now three years old. It made its world premiere in March 2021 and to say it has been a massive hit is an understatement. Toyota has shifted a whole load of units since its launch and still has a long waiting list even after all this time.

We’re not really surprised by all that. The strong equity of the Land Cruiser name practically guarantees its success pretty much everywhere. Of course, Toyota would like to keep its SUV as fresh as possible. After all, it takes over a decade for an all-new generation, so incremental improvements are a must.

It seems that the first of what could be several updates will arrive by 2025. Japanese publication Best Car reports that the full-sized SUV will get a host of relatively minor upgrades.

The first of those changes will be for cybersecurity protection. It mainly revolves around Toyota’s on-board concierge and application. You might know it better as the MyToyota App, but it’s also called Toyota Connect or simply Connected Services in other parts of the world.

Any bigger changes, you ask? Per Best Car, the engines are also due for a couple of updates. That said, it’s not for additional horsepower or torque, but rather, it’s tweaks to improve its emissions. With that in mind, it might open up the possibility of the 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 diesel getting mild electrification, but that's not set in stone yet. Presently, that engine makes 304hp and 700Nm of torque.

But perhaps the most significant of these are improvements to Toyota Safety Sense. The current iteration of the Toyota Land Cruiser still doesn’t have the latest version, Toyota Safety Sense 3.0.

Against version 2.5, 3.0 has upgraded camera sensors, along with clearer resolution and wider angles. Its pre-collision system is also enhanced and updated to operate in lower light situations. Lane Tracing Assist has been added, while the adaptive cruise control working at all speeds.

While we’re not expecting any dramatic exterior changes, these updates aim to improve the Land Cruiser 300’s drivability and safety. Of course, we’ll only know for sure once 2025 rolls in.
