Just in time for those looking for an attention-grabbing crossover SUV this holiday season, Toyota Motor Philippines has launched the refreshed RAV4 today. This is on track with what we reported back in September.

For the RAV4 refresh, the variants have been given names instead of number-letter designations. There are still four options: 4x2 Active, 4x2 Active+, 4x2 Premium and 4x4 Premium.

The most prominent upgrade to the RAV4 is its front, and you can’t miss it. The docile fascia has been replaced with a futuristic face. There are echoes of the Vios in the design, but the RAV4’s look is also quite distinct on its own. A new set of 17-inch aluminum wheels and tires complements the redesign, and the improved version's rubber has lower rolling resistance for better fuel economy.

The Premium variants have extra kit in the form of daytime running lights, LED headlamps and headlamp leveling.

Powertrain is unchanged, with the same 2.5-liter Dual VVT-i four-cylinder engine under the hood. Safety got an upgrade, with the RAV4 getting knee airbags in addition to the front, side and curtain airbags. Certain variants even have vehicle stability control, hill-climb assist control and downhill assist control.

It’s a good thing there are more features because the prices--at least for the Premium models--have slightly increased. The good news is that the Active variants are slightly lower than their predecessors. Here’s the complete price list:

* 4x2 Active - P1,263,000

* 4x2 Active+ - P1,441,000

* 4x2 Premium - P1,863,000

* 4x4 Premium - P2,066,000

New colors available are Blue Metallic, Orange Metallic, Dark Red Mica Metallic and Bronze Metallic.

From being stylish but sedate, the RAV4 is exciting to look at again. We look forward to seeing this updated compact crossover on the road.
