We’re starting to see more Toyota Tamaraw units on the road these days. Perhaps it should come as no surprise as it appeals to both businesses and even private owners. Quite the achievement given that the truck is primarily a utilitarian.
It’s safe to say that the Tamaraw has no shortage of uses. Aside from being a hauler, it’s also a people carrier and plays a key role in small and medium enterprises. However, Toyota isn’t done with its configurations just yet.

Based on papers filed in the Land Transportation Office (LTO), A new variant of the Toyota Tamaraw could be expected soon. It’s one that will be very useful for local government units and hospitals. If that’s not enough of a clue, it’s the ambulance body.

Per the document, the Tamaraw Ambulance will be based on the long-wheelbase version. That automatically means it comes with a 2.4-liter turbodiesel engine. No power and torque figures were given, but looking at the specs of the long-wheelbase utility van model, we’re looking at 148hp and 343Nm. The sole transmission choice is a five-speed manual.
While not mentioned yet, we could expect a couple of modifications to make the Tamaraw more suited to ambulance duties. We might see a cabinet fitted to it, along with hinges to lock a stretcher in place. There could also be side-facing seats for medical personnel. For other equipment, it will likely be prewired for emergency lights and sirens.
