Two new Volvo electric vehicles are heading to the Philippines—or at least we have a good indication that they are: The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has published the homologation papers for the Volvo EX30 compact crossover and its slightly bigger brother, the Volvo EX40.
Technically, Philippine roads have already seen the EX40, just under a different name. This model is the rebranded XC40 Recharge, and for all intents and purposes, it is the same car. Upon its release in Europe, the EX40 received a performance software add-on that gave it an extra 34hp. No word yet if that option will be available in our country.

What the local market hasn’t seen is the smaller EX30. Its arrival in the Philippines will make it the smallest crossover and EV that Volvo has brought over. The Swedes have obviously heard about our love for small, cute, and capable crossovers.
Interestingly, the two EVs have identical dimensions listed on their homologation papers. Info and photos online show that the EX40 is a bit taller and wider, but we’ll just have to wait until the cars are side by side in local showrooms to really tell.

What’s indisputable is the difference in range. The EX30 claims a range of 441km, while EX40 goes the extra distance with a range of 538km. But then we circle back to another similarity: Both cars have a top speed of 180kph.
At this point, the local price for the EX30 has yet to be announced—overseas, it retails for $36,245 (P2 million before taxes). The current XC40 Recharge starts at P3.9 million for the standard variant, and it’s a fair assumption that the EX40 could have a similar asking price.
