Mercedes-Benz is making smartphones truly mobile by fully integrating the Apple iPhone to the infotainment system of its A-Class mini multipurpose vehicle.
The system, which is known as Drive Kit Plus, works by syncing with the Digital DriveStyle App developed by Daimler, essentially letting the drivers access all the key content of their iPhone through the in-vehicle display while operating it through the controller on the vehicle's center armrest.
Mercedes-Benz even took the iPhone's integration with the A-Class even further by letting the Drive Kit Plus system access Siri, the iPhone's voice-based intelligent companion, allowing for natural speech input without the need for specific commands to send messages, select music tracks, check the weather forecast or stock prices, as well as to make appointments.
Besides coming pre-installed with apps like Facebook, Twitter and the Aupeo personal internet radio, the system also has an intuitive car finder, which automatically stores the vehicle's location. It also works seamlessly with Garmin's satellite navigation system.
Both the Digital DriveStyle App and the Drive Kit Plus for the Apple iPhone will be making their debut in the all-new A-Class at its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show. Mercedes-Benz also hopes to have both for the B-, C- and E-Class vehicles later this year.
