The Subaru Levorg is 2020’s Japan Car of the Year

It beat the all-new Honda Jazz by a considerable margin

The results are out, and it’s official: the Subaru Levorg is this year’s Japan Car of the Year (JCOTY). 

Subaru’s new-look wagon, which was revealed just recently, edged out by a significant margin two popular nameplates from fellow Japanese carmakers: the Honda Jazz (known as the Honda Fit in Japan) and the Toyota Yaris (the popular GR Yaris included).

The Levorg was given the honors for its improved aesthetics and upgraded tech, as well as its signature safety feature package, the Subaru EyeSight. The award-giving body also cited the Subaru Global Platform and the new 1.8-liter turbocharged boxer mill as the other reasons for the wagon’s win.

“It is a great honor that the Levorg has been recognized with this distinctive award,” said Subaru Corporation president and CEO Tomomi Nakamura. “I would like to thank our customers and all other stakeholders for their continued support for Subaru. We will continue to enhance our efforts to offer an ‘enjoyment and peace of mind’ to all customers.”

Subaru also shared that as of this writing, it has already received 12,594 orders for the all-new Levorg since its launch, exceeding its monthly target of 2,200 units.

Other winners from this year’s awards are as follows: the Design Car of the Year went to the Mazda MX-30, the Imported Car of the Year award to the Peugeot 208 and e-208, the Technology Car of the Year to the Audi e-tron Sportback, the Performance Car of the Year to the BMW Alpina B3, and the K Car of the Year to the Nissan Roox and the Mitsubishi eK Cross Space/eK Space.
