Valenzuela City has officially received its pod—er, fleet of 41 BYD Dolphin units from BYD Cars Philippines and ACMobility. We first caught wind of Valenzuela’s EV fleet back in December 2024, and as of April 29, 2025, the vehicles have been officially turned over.
In addition to this, ACMobility also inaugurated the Valenzuela City EV Charging Station, which houses four of the 15 new public charging points in the city. Most of these points make use of 7kW AC charging, but a 60kW DC charger has been mounted at the Valenzuela Alert Station. Mayor Wes Gatchalian mentioned that the rest of the charging points will be mounted in strategic locations throughout the city, such as NLEX, MacArthur Highway, and Mindanao Avenue.

It will be imperative for these Dolphins to remain charged up and ready for deployment, as 35 out of the 41 EVs will be used for law enforcement and police patrol duties. Five will be used by city government offices, while the final unit will be reserved as a first responder vehicle.

Most people are probably more familiar with the BYD Seagull, the Dolphin’s smaller and cheaper sibling. While both come in compact hatchback form factors, the Dolphin is larger overall and can drive up to 405km on a single charge, versus the Seagull’s 300km. Powering the Dolphin through the streets of Valenzuela is a 44.9kWh battery and a single motor that’s good for 94hp and around 180Nm of torque.
