BYD had quite a banner year in 2024. With a sales increase of 8,900% (that’s no typo), and nearly 5,000 unit sales last year, the electrified Chinese automaker has a lot to celebrate for.
If that’s not enough, the BYD Atto 3 has been crowned as the country’s best-selling battery vehicle of 2024. It’s a reflection of the company’s lion’s share of the EV market which is at 69% (nice) at the time of writing.

How many BYD Atto 3 units were sold in 2024? Per the company’s figures, the electric crossover saw 1,062 sales last year. So your eyes aren’t deceiving you, there really are a lot of these roaming around the streets. If you come across a charging station, chances are, you’ll see a BYD product plugged in there, either a Sealion 6 or the Atto 3.
Great news, then, but the challenge now is to sustain those sales. In response, a minor model update has been given to the nation’s most popular EV. Exterior changes for the 2025 model year are relatively minor and include a simplified tailgate design, gloss black highlights on the D-pillar, and wider tires.
Inside, there’s the addition of ambient lighting, along with new color combinations. A PM2.5 air filter has also been added for better air quality inside the vehicle. Most significantly, the infotainment system is now housed in a larger 15.6-inch screen, at least for the top-spec Premium variant. Speaking of top-spec, this trim level also gains a power tailgate.
Mechanically, it’s carried over from last year’s model. Battery options consist of a 49.9kWh pack or a 60.5kWh unit. Estimated range is rated at 410km for the prior and 480km for the latter. But regardless of variant and battery capacity chosen, output is rated at 201hp and 310Nm.
