Ford Philippines is scheduled to launch the EcoSport mini crossover tonight. This comes just over a month after the American carmaker formally launched the vehicle in Thailand at the 2013 Bangkok Motor Show.
This could mean that Ford's Thai customers will soon get the EcoSport they ordered last year, while Philippine customers who either have placed an order for it or will be placing it soon after the launch may have to wait a month or two to get their units. That's because Ford has announced that the production of the EcoSport has just started at its manufacturing plant in Rayong, Thailand.
Ford's Thailand plant is the fourth facility to build the all-new EcoSport globally, joining the company's manufacturing plants in India, China and Brazil, "reinforcing the strategic role of Thailand as a volume production and export hub in the region." The Thai-built models will be for domestic sale and export to markets across the ASEAN region, with the EcoSport to be sold eventually in 100 markets worldwide.
"The all-new EcoSport continues our ongoing product-led transformation by providing customers across our ASEAN markets with another segment-leading vehicle," said Ford ASEAN president Matt Bradley. "Produced at our highly flexible Ford Thailand Manufacturing facility, it is the next proof point in our continued growth strategy in the region."
