Last October 17, Ford sent the following e-mail to our editor-in-chief:
We will be holding a very important reveal in Sydney on December 5 and would, of course, love to have you with us. Would you be able to join?
At that time, we were wondering what the American carmaker was set to unveil to the regional (possibly even global) press. It had to be pretty significant, we thought, if it was going to be held in Australia. That car, apparently, is the all-new Mustang.
Two weeks from now, Ford will reportedly be taking the wraps off of the sixth-generation Mustang, the company\'s iconic car that will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2014.
\"In April 1964, Ford conducted its first-ever simultaneous international product reveal when the original Mustang was unveiled to media in New York and 11 European capitals,\" said Jim Farley, Ford\'s global vice president of marketing, sales and service. \"Since then, the Mustang has become embedded in popular culture, with thousands of appearances in film, television, music and video games--and more than 600 owner clubs around the world.\"
According to Ford, the all-new Mustang will make its debut on four continents and in six cities--including Sydney.
\"The Mustang has come to be much more than just a car for its legions of fans spanning the globe from New Zealand to Iceland and from Shanghai to Berlin,\" Farley added. \"When you experience the Mustang, it ignites a sense of optimism and independence that inspires us all. We have kicked off the countdown to the all-new model. With a new design, greater refinement, better performance and innovative new technologies, the Mustang is ready for the next 50 years.\"
