Did you purchase a GAC vehicle in 2023? Congratulations, then—you’ve helped the Philippines become the fastest-growing market for the brand in the world.
Based on the 2023 report of the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines (CAMPI), GAC sold 1,943 units last year. The achievement was recognized by GAC Motor International in April, when it handed an award to officials from local distributor Astara Philippines.

“We are deeply honored to personally receive this award from GAC Motor International in Guangzhou, China,” said Luis Torres, Astara Philippines CEO and country manager. “With this award, we are more inspired than ever to continue delivering exceptional results and exceeding expectations. We look forward to further strengthening our partnership with GAC Motor International and achieving even greater milestones together.”

As early as now, the carmaker looks to be on target to exceed last year’s sales. From January to March of 2024, it sold 774 units, representing a growth of 274% compared with the same period last year. Aside from expanding its local dealer network—currently at 26 outlets, with a target of 35 dealerships by the end of the year—it also started 2024 with the launch of two models, the M8 van and the M6 Pro MPV.

Next month, GAC is also set to launch its first electrified model in the local market in the form of the Emkoo Hybrid, which it previewed at the 2024 Manila International Auto Show. Powered by a 140hp 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle engine and a 180hp electric motor, the hybrid powertrain can return a claimed 22.1km/L.
“We are immensely grateful to our customers for embracing the GAC brand and making our vehicles part of their lives,” said brand head Franz Decloedt. “This significant achievement further motivates and emboldens us at Astara Philippines to continue bringing in vehicles that provide the unmatched experience and outstanding quality that meet the mobility needs of every Filipino.”
