The Kia Soul and Sportage topped their respective segments in J.D. Power and Associates\' 2013 Initial Quality Study, leading the compact MPV and subcompact CUV categories, respectively.
The awards are the Soul\'s second consecutive IQS and the Sportage\'s first for its segment. In addition, for the first time ever, Kia joined the automotive industry\'s top 10 brands for the initial quality of its products.
According to the study, Kia made substantial improvements to its vehicles, with gains that not only outpaced the industry average but also gave the brand its best-ever score.
\"Kia Motors is committed to building vehicles that are defined by award-winning design, fun-to-drive performance and world-class quality, and the Soul and the Sportage epitomize these attributes,\" said Kia Motors America president and CEO Byung Mo Ahn. \"Achieving top-10 status within the industry reflects just how far the Kia brand has come in improving the ownership experience and vehicle quality for our customers and advancing value to new levels of sophistication across our entire model line.\"
The annual report\'s findings were based on the responses from 83,442 survey participants, featuring 230 vehicle models across eight categories, and focusing on the driving experience, engine and transmission, and a broad range of quality problem symptoms reported by vehicle owners.
