Mitsubishi Motors Philippines has once again reaffirmed its commitment to the Electric Vehicle Investment Strategy (EVIS) Program. This comes amid reports that the Japanese carmaker’s participation has become uncertain.

Earlier this week, the Manila Bulletin quoted the company’s president and chief executive officer, Ritsu Imaeda, as he said: “Because the details of the EVIS have not been announced yet, alongside that, we have to think about our investment. So we are still undergoing the studies.”

Previously,  Mitsubishi announced that it will undertake a P7 billion investment in the EVIS Program. This will initiate the manufacturing of a hybrid model at its plant in Santa Rosa, Laguna by 2028. The plan will also effectively produce the first Philippine-made electric vehicle.

Imaeda’s words may have stirred some speculation, but ultimately Mitsubishi remains committed. However, the company’s statement also clarified that it is still preparing to register for the program. While the dotted line has yet to be signed, hopes are high that Mitsubishi will go through with its local manufacturing plans.

“Through this initiative, we look forward to advancing local automotive manufacturing, strengthening the industry, and contributing to the country’s transition toward more sustainable mobility,” said the company in a social media post.
