The Philippines remains Mitsubishi’s third biggest market in the world

Which is why our market is crucial for Mitsubishi Motors

When you put things into perspective, the Philippine market is small compared to many of our neighbors. For instance, Thailand and Indonesia easily sell over a million vehicles every year. Us? We’ve been trying to break half a million units for years.

Still, the Philippines remains a crucial market for several automakers. Of course, Toyota and Honda are in the list, but our importance is even more emphasized with Mitsubishi.

In 2024, Mitsubishi Motors sold over 1 million vehicles worldwide. Its biggest market is, of course, Japan, followed by the US. But coming in third is the Philippines, which might not come as a surprise anymore. That’s according to the data collated by renowned car industry analyst, Jose Muñoz.

The thing is, it’s not much of a distant third, either. 120,538 units were sold in Japan last year, while the US saw sales of 109,843. As for the Philippines, 89,124 Mitsubishi vehicles saw new homes in 2024. Considering the size of our market and land mass, it’s a huge achievement.

To put things into perspective, the Philippines bought more Mitsubishis than several key markets during the same period. Fourth place went to Australia with 74,547 units, and fifth went to Indonesia with 72,218 units. Shockingly, Thailand fell out of the top five, coming in eighth behind Vietnam and Canada.

2024 was a particularly strong year for Mitsubishi Motors Philippines (MMPC). Last year, the company posted record sales for two years in a row. If measured by financial year (April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025), MMPC shifted 91,639 units, a 12 percent increase from the previous figures. That’s thanks to models such as the Xpander, Mirage G4, and the L300. It also represents a market share of 19.5 percent.

With new and updated models coming in, MMPC might be on track for three record-breaking sales tallies in a row. And with the Destinator confirmed for the Philippine market, it might only be a matter of time before MMPC sees 100,000 sales.
