Today is the first day of play of the 2014 Australian Open. There couldn\'t have been a better time for French carmaker Peugeot to announce that it has gotten the services of Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic to be its international brand ambassador. Ranked second in the world behind only Rafael Nadal of Spain, Djokovic is easily the best tennis player on the courts of Melbourne, having won the tournament four times already (2008, 2011, 2012 and 2013). All in all, the Serb has brought home six Grand Slam singles titles (including one each at Wimbledon and the US Open).

Peugeot cites Djokovic\'s worldwide fame--particularly in China, the largest car market in the world--as \"a decisive factor in establishing this partnership.\" Said partnership is good for three years and allows the use of the tennis player\'s image in all of Peugeot\'s branding activities in all media and in all markets. Also, Peugeot\'s logo will appear on Djokovic\'s left sleeve in every game that he plays throughout the duration of the partnership.

\"I\'m happy to represent a great French automobile manufacturer, recognized throughout the world, with an industrial history going back 200 years,\" said Djokovic in a statement. \"In my eyes, Peugeot embodies French elegance, refinement and the expression of a certain art of living.\"

Incidentally, 2014 marks the 30th anniversary of Peugeot\'s sponsorship of the French Open, which happens to be the only major tournament Djokovic hasn\'t won. Perhaps this endorsement deal is a sign of things to come.
