Subaru PH: Filipino customers not affected by steering defects

Recently, Subaru announced that a power-steering defect had been found in certain units of the Impreza, the XV, and the Forester. The affected units, Subaru explained, were manufactured between December 2018 and January 16, 2019.

The good news is that Philippine customers aren’t affected by this defect. Motor Image Group, the distributor of Subaru in nine Asian countries, has announced that units delivered to the Philippines are not part of the affected production. Only 120 cars headed for the region (to three other countries) were affected—none of which actually reached customers.

However, there is a downside: Due to the defect, Subaru has currently suspended production in Japan and only plans to resume operations no earlier than January 28. This means that customers might have to wait a little longer for their units. Still, it’s a small price to pay for a safe and fully functioning unit. And given the reputation of the Japanese for efficiency, we should expect a quick resolution of the issue.
