Ahead of its September launch in the Philippine market, Xpeng has announced its intent to differentiate itself from other EV competitors by banking on its AI-heavy approach. The company believes electrification is just a single part of defining future mobility. Instead, it aims to focus on “changing what a car can understand and do” when empowered with AI.

Xpeng ultimately intends to carve a new niche in the market called ‘AI Mobility,’ a segment defined by electric vehicles equipped with AI to shape the traveling experience of drivers and passengers alike.

Xpeng general manager for Southeast Asia Sam Chu shared more about this speculative segment: “Xpeng’s arrival in the Philippines is not simply about introducing another electric vehicle brand. We want to help establish AI Mobility as a category in its own right and show Filipino motorists how artificial intelligence can make every journey safer, more intuitive, and more responsive to their needs.”

The confirmed initial models for Xpeng’s Philippine launch, the X9 premium MPV and the L03 crossover, will serve as the Chinese automaker’s first steps towards building the AI Mobility segment. Xpeng says that “the two models show how technology can anticipate needs, simplify the journey, and shape a new kind of premium experience.”

Chu also explained where the X9 and L03 fit into Xpeng’s vision of AI Mobility: “The X9 and L03 represent two distinct expressions of that vision, but both are founded on the same belief: the next generation of mobility will be defined not only by how vehicles are powered, but by how intelligently they serve the people who use them.” More details on these vehicles are expected to be revealed at the brand’s official launch.

Besides the automotive industry, Xpeng also has a presence in other industries such as humanoid robotics with Iron and low-altitude flight with Aridge. Along with its car business, Xpeng states that its portfolio demonstrates a focus on Phyiscal AI, defined as “artificial intelligence that can perceive, understand, and interact with the real world.”

Though Xpeng has shown optimism regarding the eventual introduction of these to the Philippine market, no definite plans have been put in place to do so as of writing.
