The reason commuters opt for ride-hailing services—be it for four-wheelers or motorcycles—is that they’re generally more secure. There’s insurance, you can track your rides, cashless payments are available, and most important of all, you’re mostly safe from overcharging drivers or riders.
However, there was one rider from motorcycle-taxi company Angkas who recently went viral for allegedly trying to overcharge his passenger. The video was reposted on the Department of Transportation’s Facebook page—check it out below.

By the looks of it, the rider was charging the passenger P2,000 for a ride coming from NAIA Terminal 3 to somewhere in Cainta, Rizal. The person taking the video said that even if the passenger paid P1,000, it would still be enough.

If this were a four-wheeled taxi or TNVS, a P2,000 ride would actually be possible if the drop-off point were way outside Metro Manila. But this is a motorcycle—I can’t imagine any ride amounting to P2,000. Besides, the trip was only from the airport to Cainta, so a four-wheeled taxi ride might not even amount to that much.
The DOTr and the Land Transportation Office have both taken notice of the incident, and over the weekend, the LTO ordered the suspension of the Angkas rider’s driver’s license. The LTO also issued a Show Cause Order to the registered owner of the vehicle to determine if he was the one operating the motorcycle, and if not, if he or she must be held liable for the incident as well. Angkas was also directed to suspend the rider for 30 days.
