The Department of Public Works and Highways has officially completed construction on the first phase of the EDSA Rehabilitation Project. Road work from Roxas Boulevard in Pasay City to Orense Street in Makati concluded on April 6, 2026, and will effectively move to the other half of the highway.

According to the DPWH, the project is moving two months ahead of schedule. However, the agency did not provide a specific timeline leading up to May 31, 2026—which is its original target date of completion—so we don’t know how the schedule exactly adjusted. We also do not know whether the ongoing energy crisis has affected working schedules.

Either way, the next phase of the project is expected to be the final one. Stretching from Orense, Makati, to the other end of EDSA in Monumento, Caloocan, the same stone mastic asphalt will be laid over the thoroughfare, while other general repairs will be carried out. These include concrete reblocking and repainting of the lane markings. Construction is expected to continue its nightly working schedule, from 10pm to 4am.

Along with road rehabilitation, the DPWH has also carried out sidewalk improvement works along the Estrella and Buendia areas in Makati. These pedestrian paths have been repaved and widened to accommodate friendlier bike lanes and protective barriers.

The separate EDSA Busway Rehabilitation Project is also in full swing, as new footbridges have been opened to better support commuters. Three new stations are also expected to be operational by the end of the year.
