As practical and dynamic as station wagons are, we sadly don’t see many new cars utilize the body type. However, one of the biggest automotive brands in the world has just retooled its signature wagon and given it a lot more power.
We’ve seen the BYD Seal 6 DM-i Touring before, but the Chinese carmaker has now equipped it with larger batteries, effectively boosting its fully electric driving range. On its base variants, the Seal 6 DM-i features a chunky 25.28kWh battery, which should give the wagon about 200km of driving on just electric power. However, the top-trim configuration holds a bigger 34.27kWh battery, which is advertised to return a whopping 300km of electric driving.

To put that into perspective, the Seal 6 DM-i now matches the fully electric Seagull in driving range. The battery on BYD’s subcompact hatchback sits at 30kWh, while the Seal 6 still has a 1.5-liter engine to charge the battery while driving. Its combined driving range is now said to reach 2,000km.

It is unclear if the Seal 6 DM-i utilizes the second-generation Blade Battery from BYD. If so, then charging should also be greatly improved, along with internal temperature regulation.

Along with the improved range, the Seal 6 has not compromised on cargo capacity. The trunk can still carry about 670 liters, which can then expand to 1,535 liters with the rear seats folded. With how far wagons have fallen out of favor, it looks like BYD needed to shove eye-catching numbers and capability into its touring model to get people to pay attention.
The fully electric Sealion 7 received a similar debut, as it was touted with a 4.5sec 0-100kph sprint time and other flashy performance numbers. We’ll be seeing that particular wagon at the 2026 Manila International Auto Show later this week, so be on the lookout for that.
