Did any of you get stuck in traffic earlier today? If you passed through Welcome Rotonda or within its vicinity, chances are, you probably did.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) reported this morning that rallyists from the transport group Manibela occupied the D. Tuazon intersection along Quezon Avenue, specifically the westbound side approaching the Welcome Rotonda. There were about 200 participants, and it has caused a major traffic jam in the area.

As seen in the photos, enforcers and police have also blocked the roundabout. In case you’re out of the loop, the people joining the rally are pushing back against the government’s PUV modernization program—you can read more about that here. The organized movements have been taking place since yesterday, which also caused some traffic in several parts of the metro.

No word on what’s currently happening on-site, but for those of you who were supposed to drive through here today, it’s best if you take alternate routes instead. Motorists might also want to expect the worst, as the situation here might cause a ripple effect on traffic across Manila City and Quezon City. Plan your trips accordingly, readers, and drive safe out there.
