The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has extended the validity of driver’s licenses and vehicle registrations that expired on September 30, 2025. The agency acknowledged that the recent typhoons, along with the devastating earthquake in Cebu, have made it especially difficult for motorists to renew their documents.

Drivers and vehicle owners now have until next Wednesday, October 15, 2025, to renew their licenses and registration documents, without incurring any penalties and fines. Traffic apprehension cases and tickets that were set to be resolved on September 26 were also extended to October 15.

The extension will be applied at all LTO regional offices; however, drivers can renew their licences online, through the eGovPH app. From there, drivers can pay the renewal fee and schedule the delivery or pick up of their license cards.

October 15 is shaping up to be a big day for the LTO, as the agency will also start its same-day processing system for license plates and vehicle registration documents on that day. What used to take years was shortened to three days, but the LTO believes it can now produce plates and documents for brand-new vehicles on the day they are turned over to their owners.

Because of this, the LTO now believes that there is little to no reason to use temporary license plates; hence, it will ban them by November 1, 2025. From that day forward, vehicles with temporary plates will need to present a form of authorization from the LTO office that will be producing its duplicate plates. Without that authorization, vehicle owners with temporary or improvised plates will absorb a P5,000 fine.
