In light of recent events regarding the LRT-2 line, several government agencies have worked together to help mitigate the current transport crisis, including the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).
The agency began deploying buses to ferry passengers across the affected areas since the train line ceased operations. In its attempt to contribute to remedying the situation even further, it has temporarily lifted its Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP) or number-coding scheme for public utility buses plying the Cainta-Quiapo route. The agency made the recent announcement via a Facebook post.
The lifting of the coding scheme for these specific buses has already taken effect as of this writing, and is expected to last until the repairs along the LRT-2—specifically between the Anonas and Santolan stations—have been completed to provide more transport vehicles for affected passengers. Based on the most recent statement from the Light Rail Transit Authority, the partial closure of the train line may last for at least six months.
Other government agencies including the Department of Transportation have taken action to help the affected commuters in Metro Manila. Even motorcycle taxi company Angkas has made its move, providing free rides from Santolan to Recto station and vice versa.
