Motorists looking to renew their Land Transportation Office (LTO) vehicle registration in the near future might be in for a little surprise as the agency has revamped its certificate of registration (CR), making changes to the document’s appearance and the information it contains.

The biggest change? The LTO has increased the size of the CR, acknowledging that the document’s current dimensions make it easy to misplace and difficult to read. The larger document will also be able to accommodate more information, too.

“A prominent feature of the new CR is its larger size purposely to provide enough space for the inclusion of additional significant vehicle information and in order to increase the font size to make details therein easily readable,” an LTO memorandum signed by agency head Edgar Galvante regarding the new CR reads.

“In addition, the enlarged CR shall make it at par with certificates issued by other government agencies and may help reduce instances of request for duplicate CR considering that the current size is susceptible of being misplaced.

Some pieces of required information have been ditched to simplify the CR. These include ‘denomination,’ which has been replaced by ‘vehicle type,’ and ‘body number,’ which was removed because the CR already states a vehicle’s engine and chassis number.

Removed CR information

  1. Denomination – Replaced by vehicle type
  2. Body number – Removed since CRs already state engine and chassis number
  3. Shipping weight and net capacity – Removed since CRs already state gross weight and net weight
  4. Number of cylinders – Considered by LTO as “irrelevant” information

That said, a number of new pieces of information have been added as well. Look:

New CR information

  1. Classification – Private, for hire, government, or exempt
  2. Vehicle identification number (VIN) – Considered primary identifier of motor vehicle, also known as chassis number
  3. Vehicle type – Car, UV, SUV, bus, truck, MC/TC (motorcycle/tricycle), trailer
  4. Vehicle category – Based on Philippine National Standards (PNS) classifications (L 1, L2, L3, L4, L5, L6, L7, M1 I M2, M3, N1, N2, N3, 01, 02, 03, 04, SA,SB, SC, SD)
  5. Passenger capacity
  6. Max power (for electric vehicles only)
  7. Year rebuilt – Year of rebuild will be indicated and will no longer be based on the oldest component
  8. Year model – For brand-new cars and imported completely built units (CBU) only
  9. Remarks
