During Transport Con 2024, NLEX Corporation bared some important updates regarding the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX). There was NLEX Air, the barrierless tollways, and now this: The reconstruction of the Candaba northbound and southbound viaducts.
Company president and general manager J Luigi Bautista confirmed that the ongoing construction of the Candaba 3rd viaduct will finally be completed next month. After which, he said that NLEX Corporation is now looking to reconstruct the northbound and southbound viaducts.

You read that right—‘reconstruct’ not ‘repair’ or ‘rehabilitate.’ NLEX Corporation shared it will propose this reconstruction to the government and the project will include decommissioning the current 50-year-old structures. Essentially, once this is complete, we will be driving on entirely new viaducts to traverse this portion of NLEX.
Again, this is merely just a proposal at this point, so we still have no idea how much all this will cost and how long it will take to take down and rebuild the viaducts. A few things, though, we can be sure about—there’ll be heavy traffic around that area all throughout this project, but we’re sure it’ll also be worth it in the end. If that’s what it takes to ensure our roads are safe, then it’s a small compromise.
