Quezon City residents who’ve been trekking to other cities for car-free Sundays, this is for you: A portion of Tomas Morato Avenue, known for restaurants and nightlife, is now car-free every Sunday from 5am to 10am.
The ‘Car-Free, Carefree Tomas Morato Sundays’ initiative kicked off on December 8. Aside from putting up alternate routes, the Quezon City government is also closing off several streets in the vicinity to serve as parking areas for attendees.
Which part of Tomas Morato Avenue is car-free?

From 5am to 8am on Sundays, the portion of Tomas Morato Avenue from Timog Avenue to Don Alejandro Roces Avenue will be closed to vehicles.

Meanwhile, stretches of the following thoroughfares bound by Scout Tuason Street and Scout Torillo Street are designated as parking areas:
- Scout Limbaga Street
- Scout Fernandez Street
- Scout Fuentebella Street
- Scout Gandia Street
- Scout de Guia Street
- Scout Lazcano Street
- Scout Delgado Street
- Scout Lozano Street
- Scout Castor Street

Timog Avenue will remain passable. The portion of Scout Rallos Street bound by Scout Tuason and Scout Torillo will be closed to traffic, but parking along the stretch is not allowed.

The Traffic and Transport Management Department of Quezon City has provided maps of alternate routes for vehicles passing through the area. Traffic enforcers will be on the ground to implement the rerouting scheme and guide motorists.




In the last few years, Quezon City has launched a number of programs to promote alternative mobility. The city continues to roll out bike-friendly initiatives to encourage cycling. For those who go around on foot, it has launched the GORA lane and is currently building an elevated promenade along Elliptical Road.
